Notion AI vs Mem
Both are AI notes tools, but they take opposite bets on how people actually organize information: one adds AI on top of the structure you already built in Notion, the other removes structure entirely and files things for you.
The difference that matters
Notion AI is an add-on to a workspace you already maintain, it searches and summarizes across docs, Slack, and Drive, but only pays off if your team's knowledge genuinely already lives in Notion. Mem is a standalone notes app built for people who capture constantly and never file anything, it resurfaces related past notes automatically without you having tagged a thing.
Side by side
| Notion AI | Mem | |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | Trial AI features (doc generation, database autofill), basic forms/sites, Notion Calendar, up to 5MB file uploads, 7-day page history, up to 10 external guests | 25 notes/month, 25 Mem Agent messages/month, 25 PDF pages/month of search and chat; ongoing free plan, no stated trial expiry |
| Entry paid plan | not stated | Mem Pro, $12/month billed monthly (no annual option shown on the current page): unlimited notes, collections and templates, 250 Mem Agent messages/month, unlimited PDF understanding, connected email, API access, Meeting Briefings, dark mode |
| Bills in | not stated | Flat per-seat monthly subscription; the AI feature (Mem Agent) is usage-metered by a monthly message quota that scales by tier (25 free / 250 Pro / unlimited on higher tiers) |
Choose Notion AI if
Your team already organizes real work in Notion and wants AI search and summarization layered on top of that existing structure.
Choose Mem if
You want to dump thoughts into an inbox and trust the app to resurface them later, with no folders, tags, or manual filing.
Our verdict
Notion AI if Notion is already where the team's knowledge lives. Mem if the actual problem is that you were never going to file anything in the first place.
What to watch out for
Notion AI's confirmed entry price is EUR-denominated (€9.50/member/mo on the Plus plan from the fetch used here); the USD entry figure was not independently reconfirmed. Mem's earlier apparent $99/mo figure belongs to a separate higher tier called Mem Proactive, not a step-up on the $12/mo Pro plan, now reconciled after an earlier internal discrepancy.
